Nina was full of surprises. She had a black belt in gift giving. One Christmas she gave us a dishwasher! Can you believe it? How she sneaked it in without us knowing is still a mystery to us. I hope her friends will also add to this one!
Nina sighted them from the deck of the icebreaker Lyubov Orlova, summer 2007. She was traveling with Students on Ice, celebrating the Polar Year. Baby, it’s cold outside! If you want to do something cool (literally and figuratively), consider putting this on your list! (In 2009, she also saw the Southern Lights from Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, on her trip to Antarctica.)

Sometimes, you’re just shooting in the dark, literally. (Pun very much intended.) Nina could have checked this off when she visited: Machu Picchu in Peru, the marvels of Darwin’s Galapagos in Ecuador, or in the shadow of the Great Wall in China. Who knows?
