Nina never got the opportunity to see Michelangelo’s David in Italy. Have you ever seen the famous statue in person? What was the best part of your trip?
20 years ago my husband Bob and I were in Florence. Near the statue of David we set up a musical performance with myself on flute and he on the Gravikord, an electric harp . A nice crowd gathered enjoying the music when suddenly the beep beep sirens of the po luzia – blue lights flashing – sped up to our spot. They made it obvious (albeit not in English) for us to cease playing. there ensued a lot of yelling (also in Italian) from the crowd that we didn’t understand. Sadly we packed up and left. Hours later we were touring a museum and the tour guide recognized us. he was Australian but spoke Italian.
Do you know what the crowd was shouting, he asked… No we admitted. they were yelling at the police – admonishing them for “stopping the art!! ” it was quite a revelation to learn that truth and flattering to be compared to a kind of art in progress as our musical notes wafted above the stony statue of David.. Thank you Warner family for this inspiring site…
