I decided one day to venture out on my own for a day trip. I took my camera and drove to my home town, Winkleman, AZ. I visited the gravesites of my great-great grandfather and other relatives past. I stood in front of the two story house made of rocks that my grandparents once owned and where I spent many memorable times. As I was sitting in my car staring at this marvelous house, a woman came out on to the porch and wanted to know who I was. I told her that my grandparents once owned the home. She asked me in and allowed me to tour the house. The rooms were very familiar but so much smaller than I recalled. The door to the room at the top of the stairs was not as ominous as I remembered as a child. I was always frightened that a goblin or some evil ghost would burst open the door and swallow me up. There were no goblins, no evil ghosts, just the memories that flooded me and enveloped me with warmth and the recollection of love. It is probably one of the best trips I can remember.
