Talk about cold weather camping. BRRR!! Nina was supposed to camp out on the ice. But, some nasty weather interfered. As you can see from the first picture of the rough seas breaking over the ship, the expedition leader told them if they had camped out in this weather that they would have been totally buried by snow in the storm and the crew wouldn’t be able to find them! Nina was the only one of the group who took the only other option available. She slept out on the deck! You can see a small bit of her eyes and nose peeking out from her sleeping bag in the second picture.
